London, Feb 25 (IANS) Oscar nominated British actress Julie Christie has called for the closure of military detention camp Guantanamo Bay. Christie, who was nominated in the best actress category for her role in “Away From Her”, attended the Oscar ceremony wearing an orange ribbon on her gown and was eager to explain its significance, contactmusic.com reports.
She said: “It’s the American Civil Liberties Union campaign to close Guantanamo (Bay), so it’s a very, very important issue. It’s affecting the whole world.”
The camp located in Guantanamo Bat Naval Base was opened in 2002 in Cuba and detainees held there are classified by the US officials as enemy combatants.
