Mar 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It has been reported that journalist Christiane Amanpour, who is presently involved with CNN network will join ABC and she will replace George Stephanopoulos, the host of the popular show “The Week.” The news of the hiring has been confirmed by ABC. However, Christiane Amanpour is known for her skills in reporting from war-affected zones and whether she would fit in the show which is replete with domestic policy and political discussion remains to be seen. George Stephanopoulos had to leave the show as he was given the assignment of dealing with “Good Morning America” last year.
It has been affirmed by the network that Christiane Amanpour will take over the role of George Stephanopoulos in August and till that time Jake Tapper will manage it. David Westin, the ABC News president said that the company had been trying for a long time to rope in a journalist of Christiane Amanpour’s stature. However, things did not work out earlier. CNN and Christiane Amanpour share a long working relation that date back to 2 decades. In fact she is regarded as the global face of the network.
CNN Worldwide president, Jim Walton declined to make any personal comment over her leaving the network but said that it has been a tough decision on her part. He further said that CNN and Christiane Amanpour had helped each other grow over the years. The journalist may take over other responsibilities of ABC apart from anchoring for “The Week.” The journalist will say goodbye to CNN officially in April. Before starting work for ABC in August she may take a short sabbatical.
