Mar 19 (Pen Men at Work): ABC News has employed Christiane Amanpour, one of CNN’s well-liked and much-admired personas. She replaces George Stephanopoulos. Amanpour was recognized for her uncompromising coverage from the warring regions over the past two decades.
ABC News has selected Amanpour to host its Sunday morning political talk show. Amanpour is a reporter born in Iran, who has knowledge of intercontinental political events. She, in the past, has protested about the shortage of foreign news in the American news media.
ABC News President David Westin has uttered that, with Christiane, they possess the chance to present their viewers something dissimilar on Sunday mornings. Amanpour has declared that she is overjoyed by this fresh prospect. She has stated that this is a one-shot break and that she intends to utilize it fully.
Amapour has had a prestigious status as CNN’s apex worldwide journalist since the days when there was only a solitary cable news system. She has reported from the perilous zones of wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, the Balkans, etc.
ABC has wooed her for a post since the period when Roone Arledge was the chief of the news division, which was over a decade ago. She and Westin voiced that the time for enrollment was conducive now.
Frank Sesno, a previous CNN Washington bureau leader, articulated that Christiane is aware of herself and she is acquainted with the news. He also revealed that the move is very attention-grabbing. It is also a judicious step for her and, according to him, her program will be of a dissimilar kind. George was the skilled insider, a former White House employee, who had transformed himself into an apt interviewer. Christiane is the precise opposite.
Amanpour dismissed the thought that ‘This Week’ will be enormously transformed under her stewardship. She has divulged that the imaginative DNA of the program will stay put. What they desired to do is widen the scope of it even more.
Ian Cameron, the executive producer of ‘This Week’, played down Amanpour’s alleged shortage of know-how about domestic themes. He observed that she could become knowledgeable about them just like she had to gain knowledge of diverse battles while journeying through the globe. Cameron has stated that ‘This Week’ has been known of late for its focus on domestic events. Under Amanpour, the scope of the show will enlarge. There will be more focus on international news stories. ABC will have to convince the American audience that these global stories are connected to their lives.
Amanpour was preferred over some in-house ABC aspirants, some of whom stood-in since Stephanopoulos departed, including Jake Tapper and Terry Moran.
