chris-matthewsJan 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) While watching State of the Union address of President Barack Obama, MSNBC host Chris Matthews in his conversation with Keith Olbermann uttered four words “forgot he was black” which caused him much trouble. He meant that the way President Barack Obama attempted to do away with racial divisions is really impressive. The MSNBC host was so moved by the way a black President addressed a room full of white people that it made him forget that President Barack Obama is a black. It was a compliment that he paid, however, the loose comments had sent the wrong message, immediately setting the social networking sites afire. Especially in Twitter, thousands of comments started appearing which accused the commentator of being racial.

In his long conversation with Keith Olberman, he praised the President, referring to him as a black who has always taken a neutral stand. In his speech he said in just a few months of his administration, the President has done so much for the country. He is so friendly and involved that it often makes one forget that he is a President.

His comments hurt the sentiments of some of the viewers who thought that the media-person implied that a ‘black man’ cannot become a great President. Some tweets said being a black does not imply that he cannot become a good administrator. His speech was interpreted differently by different people. The mis-communication and misunderstanding was huge. Chris Matthews came back within 90 minutes post the show on Wednesday, trying to explicate what he actually meant.
