Chris Evans is the new ‘Captain America’

031910_evans1 Los Angeles, Mar 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Marvel Entertainment has announced that actor Chris Evans has been signed on to play the new ‘Captain America’. The comic-book adaptation of Captain America has been in the pipeline for some time, and according to the deal with Marvel Entertainment, Chris Evans would play the lead in at least three ‘Captain America’ movies. The first of these 3 movies is titled as – ‘The First Avenger: Captain America.’ He will portray the character of Steve Rogers, who is actually a World War II solider, but who later becomes a superhero. Prior to being signed on for Captain America, Chris Evans has also acted in two of the ‘Fantastic Four’ movies, which are also based on Marvel Comics.

The movie will be released on 22nd July 2011, and Joe Johnston is directing it. Other stars in ‘The First Avenger: Captain America’ are the Matrix star - Hugo Weaving who will play the villain – Red Skull, who is the arch enemy of Captain America.

Many actors had been previously considered to play the role of Captain America like Chace Crawford from Gossip Girl, Ryan Philippe, GI Joe’s Channing Tatum and even John Krasinkski. But ultimately the production house felt that Chris Evans was the best bet to be the new Captain America.
