Chinatown star Joe Mantell dies at the age of 94 years

chinatown Oct 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Popular 1950’s actor Joe Mantell has passed away the age of 94 years. The actor is noted for saying two famous lines in different movies to Ernest Borgnine and Jack Nicholson and those dialogues are famous till today. He passed away in Tarzana, California on Wednesday according to reports.

The actor’s son, Robert confirmed the cause of his father’s death as pneumonia. Mantell was one of Hollywood’s most favorite actors in the 1950’s and featured as a guest actor in many movies such as The Twilight zone, The Defenders, My Three Sons, Barney Miller, etc. He also featured prominently in detective series Mannix in the next decade.

The actor was however more famous for featuring in the 1955 movie Marty which was awarded an Oscar. Paddy Chayefsky created the movie and Mantell featured as Angie, the best friend of the lead character.

The actor also featured as Walsh, a close pal of lead character Jake Gittes who also featured as Mr. Nicholson in the 1974 movie Chinatown. Mr. Mantell left behind a wife, Mary and two daughters Jeanne and Cathy in addition to his son. He also had one grandson and a step grandson as well.
