Dec.15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Cheryl Hines, remembered mostly for her stint in HBO’s popular ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ is turning director for the first time with a movie named ‘Serious Moonlight’. This comedy has Timothy Hutton playing the husband to ace actress Meg Ryan. The latter takes him hostage to thwart his attempt to walk out of the relation. It looks like the film is a homage to Adrienne Shelly, its screenwriter. The role Meg Ryan is playing is endearing and she is determined to bring back her erring husband from the other woman.

With this film, Meg Ryan gets the chance to show her comic timing after a long time. The scriptwriter Adrienne Shelly also known as a promising film maker, was killed in 2006. It was before her ‘Waitress’ opened to packed houses and rave reviews. However, Serious Moonlight is likely to find favor with the viewers because of the unconventional way the characters have been portrayed. Adrienne Shelley had an inherent talent for portraying troubled relations and it seems Cheryl Hines has followed in her footsteps. The movie has its moments and the turns and twists are likely to keep the viewers hooked.

The dialogue of the couple touches many of the reasons marriages fail in real life and it lends the comedy a touch of realism. Those who have been subjected to marital problems will laugh and squirm in their seats at the same time as they watch this flick. Cheryl Hines has got it almost perfect at her first directorial venture and the small quirks the movie has, are worth ignoring.
