Cher victim of Twitter death hoax

Los Angeles, Jan 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) “RIP Cher” was trending on Twitter on Friday following another death hoax on a celebrity. Several notable figures have been the subject of death hoax on the mini blog.

Rumor Fix reports that the latest rumor was started by a user with the name @Lorraine_Star. The website claimed that the tweet was made phony to look like a retweet from CNN. That is what certainly gave the tweet some prominence. The news the spread on the Twitter with some celebrities falling for the hoax.

The original tweet was, “RT @CNN: American recording artist Cher dies at 65 years old. Found dead in Malibu home.”

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is one of the stars who fell for the hoax. She tweeted that, “Did I just hear Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG I hope this is a twitter joke and not true. I don’t see it on the news anywhere. I’m praying its not true…”

Cher didn’t have to do the denial herself. Her jewelry designer friend Loree Rodkin replied the hoax with some anger. She tweeted that, “Whoever started that stupid rumor needs to have their face dragged across concrete,” she tweeted. “It’s a hoax. She’s fine.”
