July 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The much awaited History Channel’s new reality adventure series “Chasing Mummies” debuted on July 14 at 10 p.m. The all new adventure series that has Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass as the host, who is seen leading a team of American archaeologists along with the executive producer of the show ” Leslie Greif, was able to live up to the expectation of the American viewers who were amazed to see the real life adventure of the crew as it travels to Cairo, Egypt to find the yet hidden Pylon of Cleopatra.
Dr. Zahi Hawass who is a well known archeologist commands the whole episode as he leads the team into the world of Pyramids and mummies. Wearing an Indiana-Jones-esque hat Dr. Zahi Hawass makes the expedition all the more interesting. The very first episode of the show came up with some interesting findings and discoveries the path towards whom however were no less tiring and cruel.
The History channel had promoted the show as a first of its kind reality archeological show that will hold in front of the audience the real hardships that the archeologist had to undergo to get to the findings that change the course of the history. They promised that it will show not only some “unexpected details” but also the catastrophes, passion and anguish that “results in a trove of new and astonishing ancient Egyptian finds” and on Wednesday it only provided a glimpse of that. All eyes are now waiting for the next episode of the show that will unveil some more mysteries of Cairo.

Agree with Tim. The show was obviously scripted and had very bad actors.

It is unfortunate that reality shows have to invent all that “drama”, when in “reality” there is a lot of “real” drama when you are exploring the temples and tombs of Ancient Egypt. Read my blog about Zahi and his TV show Chasing Mummies… http://lowiczanka.wordpress.com/2010/07/30/beneath-the-surface/

Painful - horrible show… Really hurts to watch… it sh!ts all over the history and pre-history that I love. A low point in Egyptology and archeology. Dr. Zahi Hawass has destroyed any credibility he had. Abysmal. Bad. Wretching. Pissed on. Flem rattle spew. A terrible - terrible show. I hope a giant slab of tomb granite is dislodged and crushes everyone involved in this show.

I’m glad I stopped watching the channel that still has the nerve to call itself HISTORY back in 2007 when Nancy Dubuc took over the channel.
“Chasing Dummies” like every show on the rotten channel SUCKS !!!!! The killing of the camel was not needed- would have been better if they killed Hawass- I agree with PulSamsara- and would include Nancy Dubuc and those at the channel responsible for this GARBAGE !!!

I agree. The history channel has embraced this reality craze (when I thought it was on it’s way out). So Nancy D. is responsible for the change in programming? I don’t know if my opinion of this garbage is unique but if not perhaps a mail/phone/e-mail campaign could encourage better programming.

I’m a bit behind in watching the show, but I’d like to comment on the two episodes I just watched: Bats and Cursed. These episodes were excellent!!! The whiney interns were gone, and we really saw a lot in these programs:
Two beautifully painted 5th Dynasty tombs at Saqqara, Dr. Hawass went under the great Sphinx at Gizeh, and explored caves near the Great Pyramids, attended a wedding in a village, and received an Archadeological Award. (Omar Sharif was in attendance, too!)
Also, Zahi took us to the beautiful tomb of Seti I in the Valley of the Kings, climbed the mountains overlooking the Valley, and viewed a model of the Valley made by famed Egyptologist, Kent Weeks.
Hawass also took us to a Falcon Gallery, and to the Avenue of the Sphinxes in Luxor, where workers are restoring the route that connected the Temples of Luxor and Karnak. Thus far 650 of the 1350 Sphinxes have been found.
This is the reason to watch Chasing Mummies. Sadly I have only one more episode to watch. Hopefully there will be more episodes in the future.
