Film Review Charlie St. CloudJuly 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The recently released Burr Steven directed film Charlie St. Cloud is quite predictable and the only aspects that make it a tad above the average fare is the Christian undertones and spiritual gravity. The film has been adapted from a Ben Sherwood novel named ‘The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud’. The film deals with the results of a single promise. Hunky actor Zac Efron is playing the role of the protagonist Charlie St. Cloud. He plays the character of a Youngman who takes the responsibility of running his family after his dad abandons them all. This makes him appear as an ideal son and brother.

Everything goes fine until Charlie St. Cloud along with his brother Sammie gets into a car accident. Charlie is saved finally but the near death experience makes him withdraw into a shell. His brother however succumbs to the injury and dies. Charlie gets a new power to communicate with the dead and he can also contact his brother who is a spirit now. He meets with his brother even after his death almost on a regular basis. When he comes across a lady and falls in love with her the twist comes.

Actor Zac Efron delivers a commendable performance and he seems the young man who is torn between a tussle between the world of reality and fantasy. The Christian themes are interwoven into the plot of the film and that adds another layer to what would have been a regular ‘guy meets girl’ flick. The actor makes an effort to step into serious and matured roles from a teen heartthrob in this film and he succeeds to an extent.
