Chandigarh police crack down on sugar hoarders
November 5th, 2010 - 3:32 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Nov 5 (IANS) Two persons were arrested here for hoarding over 5,000 kg of sugar, police said Friday.
In a joint operation by Chandigarh police and food and supplies department of the union territory, a raid was conducted at two places after a tip-off.
“We have recovered around 2,000 kg of sugar from the residence of Satish Kumar in Manimajra town here. Another 3,000 kg sugar was seized from the house of Balwinder Singh, also in Manimajra,” said Gian Chand, inspector of the food and supplies department.
“Our investigation is on and we are trying to ascertain the source of this sugar. At the time of the arrest, the accused could not give us any satisfactory reply,” stated Chand.
