Celebrities Make ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ Telethon A Grand Success

Sep 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The much awaited and celebrity studded “Stand Up To Cancer” telethon which was showed live by the major US TV networks turned out to be a great success and the viewers loved watching the event immensely. Stars like Neil Diamond, Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen stole the limelight though actor George Clooney, Ryan Seacrest and news host Jay Leno also stood out from the rest of the lot. The fund raiser mega event was aimed at raising awareness about cancer and it was covered live by leading networks including ABC, Fox, CBS and NBC. Apart from that the telethon was also covered by some regional cable channels. The show was watched by a lot of viewers who enjoyed the program to the core since it was informative and entertaining at the same time.
Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer in accompaniment of Brian Williams hosted the telethon and the trio did a decent job. Cancer survivor TV producer Laura Ziskin was the producer for this telethon. The fund raised from this event will be given for innovative cancer research as it has been reported. The earlier telethon which happened in 2008 was a success and the same thing can be said about the recent one. However, the amount of money derived from the event is yet to be disclosed.
Neil Diamond was a scene stealer at the show and his performance of Yesterday a much loved track by Beatles left everyone emotionally moved. When he narrated the death of his niece who fell to cancer at 30 many of the viewers felt sad and became moist eyed.
