rally20-259x300Oct 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Singer Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf Islam) performed during the ‘Rally To Restore Sanity’ on Saturday afternoon in Washington DC. The singer was introduced on stage by the pro-sanity part of the rally which is led by TV host Ron Stewart. He started off his performance with ‘Peace’ train and was interrupted in the middle by the pro-fear part of the rally that is led by Stephen Colbert who brought out some big guns in the form of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne who sang ‘Crazy Train’. With the audience already star struck at this point, there were some more surprises in store for them as O’Jays sang ‘Love Train’ to resolve the dispute.

The performance by Cat Stevens, who is now known as Yusuf Islam, has irked some of the people who opposed his support of the fatwa against author Salman Rushdie. The singer had earlier said that his comments were taken out of context and has over the years denied any support of the fatwa. In spite of the controversy surrounding him, he is considered one of the most well known folk singers of the generation.

During the performance of Cat Stevens, Stephen Colbert came out on stage and started to talk about the other part of the rally and in a while walked in Ozzy Osbourne. With the crowd going berserk at this point, it looked like the ‘Dreamer’ would overpower the meek looking country singer and restore fear in the hearts of the Americans. Too soothe things down, however, there was O’Jays with his rendition of the ‘Love Train’.
