Carey feels she performed for Gaddafi
March 5th, 2011 - 2:57 pm ICT by IANSLondon, March 5 (IANS) Singer Mariah Carey plans to donate the proceeds from her new song “Save the Day” to human rights issues but says she is embarrassed she performed for Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2006.
Carey said Friday she gave a private performance for the family of Gaddafi - who has ruled Libya for 40 years and is now facing a revolt - at a party in the Caribbean.
She has promised to be careful about who she works for in future.
“I was naive and unaware who I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess,” contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.
“Ultimately, we as artists are to be held accountable. Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows.”
