keith-olbermann_a_p Jan 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) If the voice of the internet has any pull on the mind of Keith Oberman, then his next move could be to run for senate. This is because of the social media sites and political blogs which are insisting that he should run in Connecticut. Since the ending of his television show on ‘MSNBC’, sites have sprung up on Facebook and Twitter requesting that the seat which will be vacated by Joe Lieberman in 2012 should be filled by Oberman.

If any political credibility should be given to the same methods which urged Betty White to host Saturday Night Live, then perhaps he will choose to run for the seat. Crowdsourcing by Social Networking has brought the voice of the public, whether experienced or not, into the professional world on several occasions. When NASA made the mistake of asking the public’s opinion on what to name the International Space Station, Stephen Colbert mentioned the contest on his show. Soon “Stephen Colbert” had six times more votes than any other name. NASA decided not to use the winning choice, and the station was not given Colbert’s name.

Meanwhile, there are already several Democrats as well as Republicans who have lined up to take the seat which will be left by Lieberman. Chris Murphy, the Democratic Congressman changed the heading on his website just last week to say “Chris Murphy for Senate.” Perhaps he too should get a Twitter/Facebook following.
