Cameron’s ‘Sanctum’ to release world wide Feb 4
January 10th, 2011 - 7:04 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) James Cameron’s forthcoming production venture “Sanctum”, a 3-D underwater action-thriller, will have its world wide release Feb 4 and the magnum opus will hit the screens in India the same day. Directed by Alister Grierson, it is Cameron’s next after his blockbuster “Avatar”, which he had directed and co-produced with Jon Landau. Made with new cast, the thriller promises to keep the audiences at the edge of their seats, said a press statement.
Andrew Wight’s story was turned into screenplay by John Garvi and Andrew Wight, and revolves around a team of underwater cave divers on a treacherous expedition into the largest, most beautiful and least accessible cave system on earth and what happens when a tropical storm forces them deep into the caverns.
In the film, master diver Frank McGuire (Richard Roxburgh) has explored the South Pacific’s Esa-ala caves for months. But when his exit is cut off in a flash flood, Frank’s team - including 17-year-old son Josh (Rhys Wakefield) and financier Carl Hurley (Ioan Gruffudd) - are forced to radically alter plans. With dwindling supplies, the crew must navigate an underwater labyrinth to make it out. Soon, they are confronted with the unavoidable question: Can they survive, or will they be trapped forever?
Shot on location off Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, “Sanctum” has been made with 3D photography techniques that Cameron developed for “Avatar”. Designed to operate in extreme environments, the technology will help in taking audiences on a breathless journey across plunging cliffs and into the furthest reach of subterranean world.
