LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) — California Attorney General Edmund Brown has launched an independent investigation into the death of Michael Jackson, his office announced on Friday afternoon.
“Responding to a request from the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department), agents from my office will investigate several physicians whose names have come up in the course of the Michael Jackson death inquiry,” Brown said in a statement. “This investigation is at its earliest stages, and no conclusions can be drawn at this point.”
The LAPD met with representatives from the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) and the Drug Enforcement Administration on August 20 to discuss information uncovered during its investigation into the death of Michael Jackson.
In the coming days and weeks, the office said, BNE agents will review relevant records and documents. While the LAPD continues to be the primary agency responsible for the investigation into the star’s death, the Attorney General’s office will continue to assist the LAPD when necessary.
Earlier on Friday, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office ruled Jackson’s death a homicide. He died of acute Propofol intoxication, but other drugs were also found which contributed to his death.
