Bus accident death toll reaches 47 (Update)April 16th, 2008 - 10:18 pm ICT by admin
Vadodara, Apr 16 (ANI): The death toll in the bus accident that took place at Bodeli village, about 50 kilometers from here this morning reached to 47.
According to official sources, the bodies of three adults and 44 kids have been recovered, some more children are still missing.
Forty four bodies have been recovered so far. The driver and the conductor of the bus could not be saved. Four kids have been rescued so far. Its a very unfortunate incident, said N.V Patel, Chairman, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam.
The driver of the bus, an assistant and a woman were among the dead, police said.
The Gujarat Government has announced Rs. 1 lakh as compensation to the kin of dead.
The Gujarat Transport Corporation bus was taking at least fifty children on a study tour from Targol to Bodeli when the mishap occurred.
Senior District Administration officials are overseeing rescue operations.
The water released into the canal through the Sardar Sarovar Dam was stopped to aid in rescue operations.
The driver lost control of the vehicle as it was moving over the bridge. The bus crashed into the parapet wall of the bridge and plunged into the canal around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday. (ANI)
