Buoyed By Success of Mel Karade Rabba, Jimmy Turns Producer

August 10, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Jimmy Sheirgill too has joined the bandwagon of actors who have turned producers in recent times. Buoyed by the super success of his Punjabi film Mel Karade Rabba which released three weeks back, Jimmy has now decided to don the hat of a producer. He is in the finishing stages of firming up his plans for a Punjabi-Hindi bilingual and would be making a formal announcement about the movie’s cast and director by end of this month.
Confirms Jimmy, “Yes, I am all set to get a film of mine on floors soon. It will be a bilingual and while the story and setting would mainly belong to Punjab, the Hindi version would be an added bonus. The story of my film will be definitely rooted because it is all about catching the pulse of the target audience.”
One can trust Jimmy when he says that. Today he is a reigning superstar in Punjab with a hat trick of big successes: Mel Karade Rabba, Munde UK De and Tera Mera Ki Rishta. In fact, Mel Karade Rabba is now officially the biggest blockbuster ever in the history of Punjabi cinema with fabulous collections not just from Punjab and Haryana but also Canada, Australia, UK and US.
“Regional films have a huge market in India as well as overseas if made, promoted and marketed well. Still, I am not looking at increasing the number of Punjab movies that I do every year. That would lead to a saturation point. I would be making my own film now and would also be ensuring that the production values and running length would be controlled”, says the actor who kissed success in Bollywood with Gulzar’s Maachis 13 years back.
Jimmy is also sure that he would be playing the main lead in his upcoming Punjabi film.
“That’s right”, he smiles, “In fact I have already locked two stories. The kind of subjects that we have in hands is something that you haven’t seen in Hindi movies before. I am giving my heart and soul to these movies. I have decided that unless something major comes my way in Hindi or Punjabi cinema, I would mainly be doing my own stuff.”
Seen in My Name Is Khan earlier this year, Jimmy has three upcoming Bollywood films Game (thriller), Johnny Mastana (drama) and Flat (horror) up his sleeves.
