Florida, Dec 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Jamaican Reggae star Buju Banton has been arrested for drug possession charges in Florida. He is also known as Mark Anthony Myrie. He is under the US Federal Custody since his arrest on Thursday.
Drug Enforcement Administration has said that Banton’s arrest is because he was involved in a conspiracy of possessing five kilograms cocaine with intention to distribute. Buju Banton will be shifted to Tampa where the U.S attorney placed charges against him related to this case. If he is convicted on these charges, then Banton may receive a federal mandatory sentencing of minimum 20 years behind the bars.
This is not the first brush with the law for Buju Banton. He got a quittance in a gay-bashing attack against him in Kingston Jamaica in 2005. He had allegedly bashed up men, whom he thought were involved in gay activities.
Because of his anti-gay stance, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance opposed his Grammy nomination. Buju Banton is one of those eight creative people who get constant criticism from the gay community in Jamaica, Europe and America. As a result of this, many of his concerts have also been canceled and as a result a loss of 5 million pounds have been suffered.
