Bruce Springsteen gets heritage award

bruce1 April 23, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): American vocalist and songwriter, Bruce Springsteen, obtained an Ellis Island Family Heritage Award on Thursday. The singer was escorted by his mother and aunts. Springsteen divulged that these individuals had bequeathed immense significance to all his work. Springsteen, who is nicknamed as ‘The Boss’, mentioned that one can’t really know who one is and where one is heading unless one knew where one hailed from. His maternal great-grandmother, Raffaela Zerilli, arrived at Ellis Island from Italy in 1900 with five kids.

The statue of liberty - Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. presents its award to immigrants or their successors, who have contributed to the American experience. The foundation also honored investment financier, Peter G. Peterson, and Avon Chairman and CEO, Andrea Jung.

Springsteen’s most victorious studio albums, Born to Run and Born in the U.S.A., typify his liking for discovering dignity in the struggles of American daily life.

He has procured copious awards for his work that consist of twenty Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award. He acquired Kennedy Center Honors in 2009.

He has vended more than 65 million albums in America and 120 million around the globe and continues to have a well-built and loyal fan base.
