Dec 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Brryan Jackson was one of the four teenagers who were felicitated at the HALO awards on Friday, Dec. 11. This is the first installment of the award that is organized by the Teen Nick and Nick Cannon. Justin Timberlake serves as the chairman of the board that organizes the ceremony. The unique idea of celebrities recognizing and encouraging common teenagers by the HALO awards were conceptualized two years back. Raper Nick Cannon acted as the host for the evening, with other celebrities like Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Hayden Panattiere and LeBron James.
Brryan Jackson received the award for his outstanding contribution to the field of HIV and AIDS. Himself affected with HIV, he had been treated for AIDS since he was five years old. As an 11 month old toddler, he had been affected with the virus when his father, a convicted criminal for assault, had injected him with affected blood, in order to avoid paying the money ordained by the court for child support while he was in the middle of fighting a divorce case against his wife. Currently, he is in prison serving time for the crime.
At 18, Brryan Jackson is the founder of an organization called “Hope Is Vital”, an organization that spreads awareness and educates people about the affliction. He hails from St. Charles, and will shortly be graduating from Francis Howell North High School. He is currently also a voluntary staff member of Camp Kindle, which he attended as a kid. The camp volunteers to help people affected with HIV and AIDS.
