brookeOct 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The photograph depicting a seemingly innocent looking 10 year old Brooke Shields, has got drawn into a controversy once again with the authorities as well as the public, when it was put up for show at a recently held exhibition. The situation had turned so heated up, that the authorities had to remove the explicit photograph from the public display, after a surge of complaints hit home, some also from the police officials.

The picture facing the heat of the public outcry is the one that had been captured on lens by the artist Gary Cross years ago in 1975, when Shields was a mere child of 10. The photograph depicts a visibly nude Shields, heavily made up and standing in a bath tub, looking indulgently in to the camera. Though her body is that of a little child, the looks with which she cajoles the lenses, did not seem befitting for a child of that age.

The photo that has been put up at the Tate Modern exhibition (titled “Pop Life: Art in a Material World”) is the one that has been clicked by the US artist Richard Price, from the original one by Cross and is featured in Price’s 1983 collection titled “Spiritual America”. Following an outcry by the critics and the police, the picture has been removed from the public display. After it has been largely labeled as supporting child pornography by a section of the crowd, the curtains were drawn firmly.

Amidst all the hue and cry that has been raised over the issue, actress Brooke Shields has been largely missing from the scene and has not made any comments on the matter related to the decades old photograph of her.
