bonesNov. 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The cast and the director of the movie “The Lovely Bones” met the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at the worldwide premiere of the film. The film, directed by Peter Jackson stars Susan Sarandon and Saoirse Ronan among others. The film is a touching supernatural thriller about a girl, Susie, who is murdered, and watches over her family and her killer after her death. The film is based on the popular novel by Alice Sebold. The film is slated for a January 2010 release.

At it’s premiere in London, Jackson chatted animatedly about his initial lack of intention of turning the book into a film, and how he eventually turned around to the idea. Candidly, he said that he did not even think of making a movie on it when he first read the book, way back in 2002. He admitted that he had been too busy with the post production paraphernalia of “Two Towers”. It was only later as he thought about the book that he realized that it was based on a very potent subject, that of the possibility of life after death.

The actors spoke about how they had prepared for the film. Susan Sarandon, who plays the smoking, alcoholic, narcissistic grandmother Lynn in the film who attempts to turn a new leaf after Susan’s death, said that her on children gave her advice on how to assay the role, a different curve from the usual smiling caring ones portrayed in movies. She admitted that the tips were rather natural coming from her kids, considering they never had the ideal grandparents either.
