British clubs set to cash in from UEFA tourneyJune 24th, 2008 - 2:57 pm ICT by ANI
London, June 24 (ANI): UEFA have agreed to compensate British football clubs for the use of their players in this years tournament.
According to The Sun, the bill comes to around 32-million pounds, with UEFA paying roughly 3,200-pounds per player for every day they are involved in the event.
But a share of the compensation must also go to any clubs who employed those players over the past two years.
That means Atletico Madrid will pick up cash for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres and Deportivo La Coruna for Kop ace Alvaro Arbeloa.
The Reds will still do all right, though and should bank around 280,000 pounds from Pepe Reina, Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa and Torres if the Spanish quartet reach Sundays final.
They will also get more than 45,000 pounds for supplying Dutch star Dirk Kuyt.
Swiss pair Philippe Senderos and Johan Djourou have earned Arsenal 90,000 pounds. (ANI)
