British Actress Jean Simmons Dies At 80

jeanJan 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Some of the popular celebrities of the entertainment world bid the world adieu last year. People expected that the new year will bring lots of good news from the entertainment world. However, some of the talented personalities of the entertainment world left the world in the first month of the new year, which disheartened the fans. Jean Simmons, who is known for her role of Ophelia, in the ‘Hamlet’ of Laurence Olivier had passed away at the age of 80.

As per the reports, the British actress, died on Friday at her residence in Santa Monica. The agent of the veteran actress, who reported the news to the media said that she had been suffering from lung cancer for some time. Though the actress had not featured in many major ventures in the last couple of years, she had not lost her popularity among the fans. The heartbreaking news of her death has made her fans upset.

Jean Simmons had a successful career in the film and television industry for several years. In the year 1983, she had claimed the Emmy Award for the outstanding role that she had played in “The Thorn Birds.” As per the reports, before this, the actress was also honored with the Golden Globe awards in the category of Best Musical/ Comedy Actress, for her role in “Guys and Dolls” in the year 1956. She had received multiple award nominations including BAFTA nominations and Academy Award nomination for her brilliant performances. Records indicate that Jean Simmons had last appeared in “Shadows in the Sun” in 2008.
