Bridesmaids edges out ‘Sex and the City’ on the popularity charts

Hollywood, July 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) “Bridesmaids” have moved out of the shadows of “Sex and the City” to become the top R-rated female comedy in the history of Hollywood. The movie has enjoyed hugely successful box office revenue since it was released. The total box office revenue of the movie has surpassed the hundred-and-half million dollars mark and it is still expected to rake in more.

Sex and the City earned $152.6 million in box office revenue when it was released. However Bridesmaids has done much better than that. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Bridesmaid grossed $152.9 millio as at last Sunday in the United States. The movie’s gross is expected to go much higher because of the 4th of July holiday.

THR estimates that Bridesmaids should fetch at least $153.7 million in total. The performance of the movie has also made it the highest domestically grossing movie in the history of Judd Apatow. The previous record was held by “Knocked Up.” The movie was the top-rated movie of Apatow when it fetched $148.8 million in the US cinemas.

Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, and Kristen Wiig are the stars of Bridesmaids. The script of the movie was penned by Wiig alongside Annie Mumolo.
