Washington, Dec 4 (ANI): Hollywood star Brad Pitt has unveiled his new residential vision of his eco-friendly architectural-housing program Make It Right for the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged Ninth Ward of New Orleans - pink tents erected to mark the site on which future homes are to be built.
The 43-year-old star said that the hundreds of pink, eight-foot-high, fabric-covered blocks that workers had just constructed were an art installation, a social statement.
The Troy star also admitted that he would like to see how the pink-coloured tents would look on Google Earth.
When quizzed as to why pink was used the actor explained that the tents could be eventually turned into novelty items to raise more funds.
“Why pink? For me, it screams the loudest. It says that this place, where so many people thrived, is still sitting there like a barren wasteland, and we can change that, E! Online quoted him, as saying.
Pitt also said that the structures were a part of an art installation that aims to serve a dual purpose.
According to him, they’re meant to remind visitors about the devastating storm and the subsequent flood that uprooted low-income sections of the city and to draw attention to the slow rebuilding process going on there.
On Nov. 9 pledged 5 million dollars of his own money towards the project.
Pitt has also asked the general public, foundations, individuals of means, church groups, to donate and help the families of New Orleans get back into their homes.
The star suggested that sponsors could also make smaller donations that would pay for various elements of the eco-friendly designs, like trees, fluorescent bulbs, bathroom fixtures or appliances.
“This is really an adopt-a-house campaign. I’m asking for foundations, for high net-worth individuals, for church groups, for corporations to come in and adopt a housebasically, 150,000 dollars will get a family back in their home, he said.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of next summer. (ANI)
