Brace For ImpactJan 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sunday night saw the Brace For Impact:The Chelsey B. Sullenberger Story being aired on TLC at 9.00 PM ET/PT. Brace For Impact is the story of US Airways Flight 1549, which was ditched in a river with all of its passengers and crew members coming out safe and sound. In what has become a norm these days, an interesting or new show on TV leads the viewers to the net- which provides them with more news.

It was January 15, 2009 when the Airbus A320 was scheduled to fly form New York to the town of Charlotte in North Carolina. The initial climb out saw the Airbus hit some Canada Geese, which in turn made the Airbus loose engine thrust. The impact with the birds turned the airliner’s wind shield brown and thudding sounds were produced. The birds were ingested in both the engines, which resulted in the loss of thrust.

The crew members determined the state of the flight and decided to glide over the river of Hudson. There were around 155 people onboard, who were safely evacuated from the Airbus while the Airliner was sinking slowly but steadily. The whole episode got the crew members a Master’s Medal of the Guild Of Air Pilots and Air Navigators. The people onboard suffered several injuries from which five were serious. This included Doreen Welsh (a flight attendant’s) leg which had a deep laceration. Other than these, total people who needed medical attention numbered 78 but mostly for injuries that were not very serious. The passengers also needed medication of hypothermia. The whole mishap did cause post-traumatic stress on people and they showed some ‘delayed psychological effects’.
