Three of the nations top hospitals are part of the new hit summer series that takes into the heart of the drama. Massachusetts General, Children’s Hospital Boston and Brigham and Women’s Medical Center allow camera’s to follow the lives of the doctor’s, nurses and patients who enter through the doors of the best medical centers on the east coast.

Olivia is a six-year-old child who has suffered from cardiac arrest while playing at her elementary school, she is rushed to Children’s Hospital in Boston where doctors frantically assess her situation. ER Nurse Mike O’Donnell informs us that at this point she is stable and on her way to get a cat scan of her heart, suddenly her heart goes into V-fib. The hospital immediately transfers her to the pediatric unit to start treatment. After a couple days of great care she is on her way to healing and a heart defibrillation device is transplanted in her to keep her heart active.

Marvin a 55-year-old male needs a heart transplant as soon as possible. Three days ago he seemed perfectly healthy, seemed is the key word. On day three his family was called into the hospital for a meeting with the doctors who explain to his wife that he should be removed from the heart transplant list, since he is no longer stable enough to receive the heart. During the meeting a nurse who cares for Marvin rushes in to inform the doctors Marvin is in cardiac arrest. With his family by his side they allow the patient and his loving family to spend their final moments together. His caring doctor needs reassurance from her colleagues and social worker to help her cope with an untimely death.

Boston Med gives great insight into the struggles and harrowing life changes as an intern and resident at the three hospitals. This is no Grey’s Anatomy and there is no McDreamy or Steamy, but there is plenty of action and relationship woes. Boston Med can be seen on your local ABC network Thursday evenings; check your local listings for times.
