Bono’s injury puts tour on hold

May 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Bono, lead singer of rock band U2 has been hospitalized after undergoing an emergency back surgery.
The band posted an online message on Friday, saying that Bono has undergone surgery for an injury sustained during tour preparation training. The message also said that he was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit in a Munich hospital, and is under the care of neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Jorg Tonn and Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt.
Bono will be spending the next few days in the hospital, before returning home.
The Irish rock band was scheduled to perform across North America and Europe in coming months. They were due to begin rehearsals on Tuesday for the opening date in Salt Lake City It is not clear at this time if the band’s tour will be affected by his injury as the online message reads that an official statement will be made regarding the forthcoming tour dates only after reviewing Bono’s condition.
Paul McGuinness, manager of the band said that they will make plans to reinstate the dates as soon as possible.
According to figures from Billboard magazine, the 360 Degree tour by U2 last year earned them around $109m, making it the most profitable tour of the year.
