New York, May 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The car linked to James Bond’s hit film ‘Goldfinger’ was among the group of cars that were auctioned this weekend. In all, forty-five cars were involved in the auction and a total of $6.8 million was realized from the sale of thirty-six of the forty five cars. Though only thirty-six cars were sold under the hammer, the total amount of $6.8 million far exceeded the total estimate by $500,000.

The Aston Martin DB4 was the Bond car, and though it never featured on the film ‘Goldfinger’, it was used for the first gadget-car. The car was sold for $35,000 more than the initial estimate. The car, which was abandoned in a garage since 1974, was extensively restored before the auction.

Another vehicle, Ashton Martin DB2 1950, fetched the highest amount of $740,000. The car, which was on its way to the Le Mans race in the 1950, was involved in an accident less than 24 hours prior to the race.

Organizers say the sale has been successful especially in these times of economic downturn. James Knight said that, “The people who like the earlier cars seem to be more interested at the moment. Your average guy who’s in the market for a second-hand supercar might not think it’s the right time to buy.”
