Jan 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It has been long since his fans have been craving to see him on screen. But yesterday in the “NCIS” Season 8, episode 12, Bob Newhart had set the screen on fire and gave the best gift to all his fans. However, unlike his other shows where he is mostly makes people laugh, his character in the show was rather a kind that could impart an emotional touch to the show.
Dr.Walter Magnus, a retired medical examiner, played by the veteran actor, revisits his old working place, as he was losing his memory due to his growing age. He just wanted to revive his old memories of a medical examiner. Dr.Walter Magnus preceded the current medical examiner, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard played by David McCallum. Although David McCallum has always played the role with conviction, sources say, that with the presence of Bob Newhart, the show got a rating like never before. Bob Newhart said in an interview that Mark Harmon helped him a lot. He said that there were hardly any suitable role in the past that he could carry off. However, the character of Dr.Walter Magnus was something that he could relate too. This is because, both of them are aged characters with similar problems in life. From the script he could conclude that it was about a person, who had to give up what he loved, a situation, quite similar to that of his real life.
He was all more excited to take up this role because, “NCIS” happens to be his family’s favorite show. It is regularly watched by his wife. Moreover, he felt, that if he at all had to do a show, then why not settle for the best one. The episode depicted the changing phase of the actor’s life. Although he is still the same person with a humorous disposition, the role completely suited the real life image of the aging actor.
