boardwalk-empireSep 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The ‘Boardwalk Empire’ - a much coveted gangster/drama series was premiered this Sunday on HBO. This series on HBO comes after True Blood which had made some people quite fed up of fangs and blood. Directed by Martin Scorsese, Boardwalk Empire shows the Atlantic city in the 1920’s being dominated by a real life character of Nucky Johnson, though in the series the name of the character is Nucky Thompson, who is an Atlantic city treasurer and his kingdom consists of babes, booze graft and gambling.

Boardwalk Empire is based on a novel by the same name “Boardwalk Empire” by Nelson Johnson. The touch of the director Martin Scorsese can be seen throughout the series and the sets may remind people of “Gangs of New York”. The role of Nucky Thompson is played by Steve Buscemi who has brilliantly played his part. His character can be seen as being complete opposite of another gangsters series of HBO “The Sopranos” where James Gandolfini played the role of Tony Soprano whose character in the series was outwardly brutish and inwardly sensitive.

There are some though who feel that whether the series goes on to become a hit or not depends very much on whether they are ready to see him as portraying this character week after week. There is no hint of doubt about the acting abilities of Steve Buscemi but when the audience compares the character with lets say that of James Gandolfini in “The Sopranos” then whether they will feel satisfied or not is yet to be seen.
