Bo Burnham-the internet phenomenonJune 6th, 2009 - 6:47 pm ICT by GD
Bo Burnham is a singer, a song writer and an internet celebrity. He was born in 1990, in the month of August and a few days later he was baptized as Robert Burnham. At present this 18 year old writes comic and satirical songs (that are more often than not politically incorrect). This comes naturally to him and so does posting a comic video of himself in the Youtube. Talking about Youtube till last April (2009), his videos had received a 41.6 million hits. That is quite significant for someone just stepping in to the adulthood.
In June 2008, Burnham released his first- “EP-bo-fo-sho” through Comedy Central Records and on March 2009 he released his first full length self -titled album with the same label.
As a young boy, Bo attended the boys’ St Johns Preparatory school, a catholic high-school in Danvers, Massachusetts. While in school, Bo was enrolled in the school’s honor role and also with the campus ministry program. Apart from that he also did a bit of theater. Bo Burnham completed his graduation from St John’s in the year 2008.
Bo is still in the early days of his career but has already been compared to the likes of Eminem, Ben Folds and Andrew Dice Clay. Burnham’s music and performances are usually based on delicate issues like gender, race and human sexuality.
He encountered his share of controversy regarding his work on 3rd March,2009 upon which he commented “It’s so ironic since the gay bashers were the one’s labeling me in the high school. I try and write satire that’s well-intentioned. But these intentions have to be hidden. It can’t be completely clear and that’s what makes it comedy.”
