Billy Ray Cyrus Defends Miley’s Pole Dance

miley3Teen sensation Miley Cyrus stepped on the wrong foot of the public recently, when she did something totally unexpected of her as a teen idol. At the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, the 16 year old did a pole dance while performing her hit number “Party in the USA”. While singing the song, she had jumped up on an ice cream cart and holding the metal pole (that was fixed on the top) on the cart, did some provocative ans sensual moves.

This feat of hers has not been lauded by quite a large section of the people (and she had received quite a lot of flak for the same across the web too), who felt that in her responsibility as being an inspiration to teens, she had let down badly; that she had gone much ahead than her teenage years granted.

Her father however, came out in her defense and spoke on behalf of his daughter. Billy Ray Cyrus, in a recent interview, the first since Miley’s provocative act at the awards, said that the “Hannah Montana” star still remains focused on entertaining her fans. Said Billy Ray, “You know what? I just think that Miley loves entertaining people. She loves singing and songwriting.”

He had even encouraged her on the performance and advised the young star to block out all the negative criticism. the doting father said, “I always tell her to love what you’re doing and stay focused for the love of the art and not worry so much about opinion.”

However, the star herself seems to have moved on over the controversy as she gets busy sharing the news of her cat Nala giving birth to young ones, with the Twitter followers.
