Billy Mays Still ‘On Air’

He was considered the greatest “Pitchman” ever, the most effervescent and lively on screen ’salesman’ personality, with him a genre of ‘tele-sales’ is somehow lost forever. Now that (William Darrell ) “Billy” Mays Jr. is no more, he is being missed greatly in the television and infomercials circuit. The Discovery Channel has scheduled a tribute segment to Mays on the 9th of July. With him gone, Discoverie’s “Pitchmen” is also in uncertainty over its future course.
Paying a tribute to such a character as Billy Mays is not any matter of easy talk; to fit in to the mold of his larger than life screen presence, overcome the daunting numbness of it and proceed, is a toiling task in itself. He was so big, it is heard that even his friends and family could not resist doing ‘impressions’ of him. His booming voice, his immaculate style, his onscreen charisma; a very appealing part of the whole deal.
Even after his death, Mays lives on, as two new commercials featuring him will hit the television screens in coming days; the “Mighty Tape” and “Mighty Putty Super Pack” are scheduled to debut on air in the upcoming days spread over the next two weeks (roughly July 20), according to Bill McAlister, the president of Media Enterprises. It is the same company that is behind the Mighty Brand pitches.
Weeks after his June 28 death, Mays face flooded the television screens as networks went on airing old commercials of the pitchman, some ads that featured Mays dealing with a health insurance plan.
For the “Mighty Tape”, Mays says, “Just stretch, wrap and it fuses fast,”, while he demonstrates the product.
