New York, Dec 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Singer Billy Joel’s 23-year-old daughter Alexa Ray Joel has tried to commit suicide after a suspected breakup with her boy friend. She has been rushed to hospital in New York after allegedly overdosing on pills.

An ambulance was reportedly called to Alexa Ray Joel’s apartment in the afternoon following a call to 911 from a roommate who revealed that Alexa Joel had taken too many sleeping pills.

A family spokeswoman issued a statement confirming that Ms Joel was in St Vincent’s hospital and in a stable condition. “Her doctors are assessing her needs. That’s all we can say at this moment,” Claire Mercuri, publicist for both Ms Joel, herself a musician, and her father, said in a statement.

Her mother is the supermodel Christie Brinkley and she rushed to her daughter’s side from her Long Island home. Billy Joel is also expected sometime soon.

Alexa was already battling her loneliness and was also feeling frustrated and depressed when her music career didn’t take off as brilliantly as she expected. Her breakup with her boy friend apparently tipped the emotional scales for her and she overdosed on sleeping pills, to end her sad and lonely life.
