Big Pictures heads to Pusan, London fest with four films
October 6th, 2009 - 6:07 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Mumbai, Oct 6 (IANS) Four movies produced by Big Pictures - “Well Done Abba”, “Abohamaan”, “Kutty Srank” and “Janala” - will be screened at the upcoming 14th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) and 53rd London Film Festival.
While “Kutty Srank” and “Abohamaan” will be screened in A Window on Asian Cinema section at Pusan film fest in Korea starting Oct 8, while “Well Done Abba” and “Janala” will be screened in the World Cinema Category of the London fest, beginning on Oct 14 respectively.
Shyam Benegal, who has directed “Well Done Abba”, will attend the screening at London.
“These selections make the Reliance Big Pictures portfolio the best in the festival circuit,” Mahesh Ramanathan, COO, Big Pictures, said in a press statement released here Tuesday.
“Well Done Abba” is a satirical comedy starring Boman Irani in a double role. Other actors include Minissha Lamba and Samir Dattani.
With “Kutty Shrank”, director Shahi Karun brings out three distinct personalities of a dead boatman from the perspective of three women each of whom claims to be his wife. It stars south superstar Mammooty, Kamilini Mukherjee, Padmapriya and Meenakumari.
Rituparno Ghosh’s Bengali project “Abohomann” depicts a relationship between a film-director, a young actress and a wife who swears to ruin her husband’s life and career and a son who gets caught in the crossfire in this extravagant drama. It features actors like Dipankar De, Mamata Shankar, Ananya Chatterjee, Jishu Sengupta and Riya Sen.
“Janala”, directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta, is the journey of a solitary man against the wrath of circumstances when he decides to pursue his little impulsive dream. It stars Tapas Paul, Swastika Mukherjee and Indraneil Sengupta.
The first three were also screened at the Montreal World Film Festival while “Janala” was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival.
