Bhangra Rock Fusion Band Kissmet To Release Their New Album, ‘Trippin’

June 28, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The only Bhangra Rock Fusion band in the world is Ron Singh’s Kissmet band. The band is going to launch its new album titled “Trippin’ the Life Fantastic!’ at Glastonbury during their performance. It blends traditional Punjabi folk music “Bhangra’ with the rock music of Western culture.

Ron and Buzz Singh, the two brothers of Sikh origin are the founder members of the band. The Singh brothers have their roots in Punjab, a state in the Northern India. However, both of them were born and brought up in t Peterborough, UK. They led a highly westernized life socially and had a very traditional Punjabi life at home. So, there are comfortable with both the cultures.

The Kissmet band composes and performs music in Hindi, English and Punjabi with a blend of rock and Bhangra. The vision of the band has appealed the masses all over the world and has become a favorite in the UK festivals. Since 2004, the band has been performing in the UK festivals every year after their Glastonbury performance that year.

The band has also performed in the Larmer Tree Festival, Summer Sundae, Belladrum Festival and in the Edinburgh Hogmanay. They have shared stage alongside Asian Dub Foundation, Duffy, Salsa Celtica, The Doves and the Afrocelts. The Kissmet has performed in countries like Goa, Poland, Mexico, Switzerland, Ireland, Finland and The Czech Republic.

The energetic live performances by the band are included in their new album, which consists of a fusion of Punjabi, Hindi, English and the ancient Sanskrit numbers.

The founder member Ron Singh, said, “We wanted to give the essence and vibe of our live performances in the album so we worked for a long time on this. We have also come up with our new studio while working on the album. We have invested a lot of time to get the things done perfectly.”

Another member, Buzz Singh added, “Having our own studio, allowed us to experiment with the numbers. We have used lots of percussion instruments like the tabla, dhol and dholak. It will appear with full energy along with the chants. We are very happy with the results as we got to work with some wonderful musicians.”
