BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ Recognizes Accomplished African-American Women

Nov 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The much anticipated ‘Black Girls Rock!’ awards that recognizes the achievement of women of colors was aired on the BET network last night to the utter delight of the viewers. As expected, the much-awaited ceremony turned out to be a star-studded event as some prominent female personalities from the world of entertainment, politics and society were bestowed with honors to mark their illustrious careers. Actress Nia Long took up the hosting responsibilities of the show that showcased awards being conferred upon some of the most successful women of the entertainment industry.
The ladies who were recognized for their works included actress/singer/producer Raven Symone who took home the Young, Gifted & Black award while the ‘Who Got Next?’ award was bestowed on singer and actress Keke Palmer. While much acclaimed musical artist Missy Elliott was the proud recipient of the Visionary award, the night also turned out to be extremely special for legendary actress Ruby Dee who was honored with the much-coveted Living Legend award. Apart from the world of glitz and glamor, other women who were recognized was Teresa Clarke who received the Shot Caller honor while Rev. Dr. Iyanla Vanzant was the recipient of the Motivator award.
At the same time, the Trailblazer award went to Major General Marcelite J. Harris, who is known to be the top ranking African American woman in the Department of Defense as well as the highest ranking woman of the Air Force. Overall, the ‘Black Girls Rock!’ event was able to live up to the expectations of the viewers as apart from honoring the accomplished ladies, it also entertained them to the fullest.
