Bengali actor’s campaign stage collapsesMarch 16th, 2009 - 3:07 pm ICT by IANS
Kolkata, March 16 (IANS) Bengali film actor-turned-politician Shatabdi Roy suffered minor injuries Monday after her stage collapsed in West Bengal’s Birbhum district where she was campaigning for the Trinamool Congress.
Roy is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Birbhum on Trinamool Congress ticket.
After Roy addressed a gathering of over 100 people, her admirers rushed on to the stage to meet the actor. The stage, made of light wooden planks, could not take the weight and collapsed.
“I am all right… just suffered minor injuries on my left hand and feet. But there’s nothing to worry,” Roy said.
Roy said she is overwhelmed by the love of the people that resulted in this incident.
“After my speech, my fans from the audience wanted to come close to me and shake hands.
“I am overwhelmed by the love and affection of the people towards me. This incident proved how much they support me and increases my responsibility towards them… because now it is my duty to work for the development of the district,” she said.
