Ben Stiller to get the BAFTA for comedy

Los Angeles, Aug 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Ben Stiller has been named as a recipient of an award by The British Academy of Film and Television Los Angeles. The comedian will be recognized with the award Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy, the organizers of the award announced on Tuesday.

The chairman of BAFTA Los Angeles, Nigel Lythgoe announced during a press briefing on Tuesday that, “Ben Stiller is a master of comedy who, just like the legendary filmmaker for whom this award is named, embodies the remarkable multi-hyphenate talents of actor, writer, director and producer.”

BAFTA/LA has already named some award recipients for the event which will take place on the 30th of November. Already named award recipients of BAFTA/LA include John Lasseter, Helena Bonham Carter and David Yates.

The event will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and it will be hosted by actor Alan Cumming.

The Charlie Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy was first awarded in 2010. The award is in memory of the great British comedian Charlie Chaplin and Betty White was the first recipient of the award in 2010.

Stiller will appear in the movie “Tower Heist” which will be directed by Brett Ratner and also features Eddie Murphy.
