Aug 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) August 29 is a significant day for music fans all over and especially the Beatles fans as 44 years ago on the same day, the world’s greatest band performed for the last time for its almost maniacal fans. For many, the day signifies the end of an era, the end of music and for some it is a bitter reminder of the fact that the band could have continued but did not.
Apart from the band members, no one was aware of the decision. As the 25000 strong crowd gathered at Candlestick Park on the early evening of August 29, not one of them would have been aware of the fact that they were all becoming a part of music history by being present at the time. The Beatles band members on the other hand made sure that the last concert is well documented as they invited photographers on stage to capture the moments. They started off the evening with Chuck Berry’s ‘Rock and Roll Music’ and then followed it with a rousing performance of ‘She’s A Woman’.
Some songs later they introduced a new song called ‘Day Tripper’. And then the audience were treated to a bunch of legendary musicians who performed as if it was their last performance (which it actually was). In spite of the ordinary stage sound quality, the Fabs managed to hit almost all the notes to perfection and in the end gave the audience a taste of where it all started for them. Finally, after 33 golden minutes the band hit their last chord and bade farewell to their live fans forever. The end of their live performances marked the beginning of another great phase in music’s history.
