Nov 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) BBC Trust the governing body that monitors and supervises the output and overall performance of the corporation said in a statement that in recent times the daytime TV shows on the network have become too boring and formulaic. No particular programs were mentioned but the trust possibly hinted at shows like Escape to the Country and Bargain Hunt. The trust also said in its statement that BBC One should try to offer more “range, variety and surprise” so that the viewers do not get bored by its programs. The Trust has indicated that it wants BBC to do more coverages on drama and current affairs. The BBC One programs sown in early evening slot have come under the scanner of the trust. It pointed out that even 5 years back the network aired many more programs in the same time slot compared to what it aired in 2009.
The BBC Trust also said that it expects the ratings of BBC Two to take a nosedive further in the next year. However, it has some words of praise for BBC Four dubbed as the most intellectual TV network of the corporation. It said that BBC Four should focus on genres like culture, music and arts to retain its reputation amidst the viewers. BBC Four also needs to show less entertainment and comedy shows said the governing body.
BBC’s head of TV Jana Bennett admitted the development saying that “The Trust has asked us to build on the strong performances of BBC One, Two and Four”. Creativity and variety should e the two aspects where the networks must focus, say the trust.
