BBC bosses apologise over Hugh Grant joke
March 14th, 2011 - 11:23 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Mar 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) BBC has apologized for the comments of Hugh Grant during the Six Nations rugby game between England and Scotland. His comments on homosexuals received a lot of criticism forcing BBC to come out with apology.
During the game, Grant was invited to the BBC commentary box. Grant got on the nerves of many people when he said during the half time of the game that he played rugby during his school days adding that “I discovered it hurt less if you tackled hard than if you tackled like a queen.”
The comment received a lot of criticism and tweets kept pouring in. one tweet in particular said that, “Nice bit of old-school homophobia from him that, wasn’t it?”
In an interview with The Sun, a spokesman for BBC took responsibility of the comment and offered their apology for anyone who might have been hurt by them.
The spokesman said that, “We apologise for any offence his comments may have caused.”
The game was won by England and the country has the real chance of winning a Grand Slam this year following their win over Scotland in the Twickenham Stadium on Sunday.
