Kolkata, May 22 (IANS) Famed Bangladeshi actor Firdaus Sunday went to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence to congratulate her on assuming the post. The actor, like all others, had to wait outside her residence before getting to meet Banerjee.
Firdaus, who has acted in several Bengali films alongside actors like Rachana Banerjee and Rituparna Sengupta, said while waiting to meet Banerjee at her Kalighat residence: “I am here to congratulate Didi, not only on my behalf, but also on behalf of my country. I would be meeting her after a decade, but she hasn’t changed a bit.”
“I thought she would have changed. But no…it feels I have come to visit my same old Didi (elder sister).”
“The examples she has set, many can’t do. People make promises but do nothing when they come to power. Didi is not among them. She will continue to be in our hearts like before,” said the actor.
On his expectations from the chief minister, Firdaus said: “The level of friendship between the two countries has gone down in the last few years. I, therefore, expect that she will work towards strengthening the friendly ties between Bangladesh and India and increase the number of cultural exchanges.”
