Bald Miss Delaware Kayla Martell Inspired By Five Year Old

Milford, June 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Milford native Kayla Martell is no regular beauty queen. Yet her autoimmune condition which has resulted in her receding hairline couldn’t stop her from winning the Miss Delaware title. The 21 year old girl happens to be a victim of Alopecia which have done ravages to her hair follicles, making her bald.
Kayla Martell has been battling against Alopecia for ten years now and her source of inspiration to win the Miss Delaware title was none other than Lilliana Hakim. The five year old girl is also a victim of Alopecia. Erica Hill on Monday welcomed both Kayla Martell and Lilliana Hakim in the Monday episode of “The Early Show” where they got candid with their stories. Kayla Martell recalled how she started losing her glorious tresses when she was just ten. The situation worsened in her adolescence but she bravely handled it and accepted the whole thing without any complain. She also said that she was always confident and positive as she had the company of her wonderful friends and family members. It was her confidence that made it possible for her to move out without wearing the wig.
When asked about her inspiration, she referred to little Lillian Hakim and told how she had asked Kayla Martell to return to the stage of Miss Delaware. Lillian Hakim once told Kayla Martell that she is her Miss America and hence she should never give up chasing her dream. As Miss Delaware, Kayla Martell plans to raise the level of awareness among one and all who suffers from Alopecia and boost their confidence by her example.
As for her little inspiration, Lilliana Hakim got a chance to try the Miss Delaware crown at the special camp where she along with several children suffering from Alopecia are looked after.
