Bafta triumph for ‘The Thick of It’
June 7th, 2010 - 12:57 pm ICT by ANIWashington, June 7 (ANI): Bafta TV awards 2010 declared the series ‘The Thick of It’ as the winner of the TV Baftas with three trophies - including the best sitcom award.
The fly-on-the-wall mockumentary focuses on the operations of a fictional government department, constantly terrorised by a foul-mouthed Downing Street spin doctor.
TV presenters Ant and Dec took home their first ever Bafta, for series nine of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
“I don’t know what the hell we did wrong for the first eight series,” the BBC quoted Declan Donnelly as saying.
Ant McPartlin added, “You feed a couple of kangaroo testicles to a glamour model and you get a Bafta.”
The duo also won another prize Britain’s Got Talent - named best entertainment show at the ceremony. The Thick Of It began on BBC Four, but transferred to BBC Two for its third series earlier this year.
While The Armstrong & Miller Show won Best comedy programme award, Misfits won the Best drama series award and EastEnders won Best continuing drama award - on its 25th year. Julie Walters won the best actress and Kenneth Branagh won the best actor Bafta for Wallander.
Walters’ win makes her the most decorated actress in the history of Bafta, with seven trophies to her name. Branagh, on the other hand beat John Hurt to the award. However, Hurt didn’t seem to mind at all.
“If I win a prize, I’m delighted for that evening. Then, the next morning, I get on with it,” he said on the red carpet.
Channel 4’s raucous sixth form comedy The Inbetweeners won the audience award, the only prize of the night to be voted for by viewers. (ANI)
