Baby Number 19, Josie Duggar Comes Home!

April 7th, 2010 - 11:14 pm ICT by Angela Kaye Mason

josie Josie Brooklyn Duggar has had a rough time for the first four months of her tiny little life. She was born at 25 weeks, weighing in at 1 pound and six ounces by emergency C Section. The micropremie then had to fight for her life as complications arose, such as a bowel perforation at just 8 days old. The amazing baby has now been in the Arkansas Children’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care department for four months.

The Duggars, who star in the reality television show, “19 Kids And Counting” have been on a roller coaster ride wince the birth in December. Mom says that this has finally leveled out, and that often it was Josie who pulled them through it. “She has a strong personality,” Michelle says. “She is a spunky little thing and will keep us all going.” “19 Kids and Counting: Josie Comes Home” will air Sunday, May 9, at 8/7 Central on TLC. The devoutly Christian family wanted to thank the world for the prayers and encouragement which has brought them all through this time. Josie is truly a miracle.

Today, Josie weighs in at four pounds and nine ounces. She is breathing without oxygen, and eats every three hours. The doctors decided that she was stable enough to go home, much to the excitement of her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Her doctor, Robert Arrington, is very proud, but not necessarily happy to see Josie go. The day is bittersweet for him and the staff. “I will miss being around the baby and the family,” Arrington says. “They are very nice people. But they’ve told me they will stay in touch and come by the nursery to let us see her.” As the parents drove away from the hospital, little Josie in tow, Arrington made the statement, “This is the first time Josie has seen sunlight.”
